Spring and fall - my two favorite times to shoot outdoor portraits. And when you combine a perfect day with beautiful autumn color and a delightful family, magic can happen!
Hagar Park in Jenison is one of my favorite places for natural, outdoor portrait photography. There are so many settings to use, from open fields of grass to woods filled with beautiful maple trees. Plus, when a family is done with their portrait setting, they can wind up their evening together by heading over to the great playgrounds to burn off some energy!
When I spend time photographing a family, I encourage them to relax, laugh, and just enjoy being together. This Hudsonville area family fell into those candid, carefree roles so easily that it was easy to capture their personalities, both individually and as a family unit.
Their little girls, just one year apart, were full of personality as they tossed around autumn leaves and played with their mom and dad. The oldest was outgoing and full of mischief with a ready sweet smile, and the youngest was thoughtful and observant as she took in this experience of being photographed.
Mom and dad loved their final images, and mom and I had a great laugh over one of the final shots of the evening - with three of them in a big bear hug, and the youngest daughter standing off to the side, her face clearly saying, "Alright. Enough of this picture-taking stuff. I'm done!"
